Everyone has good intentions, and pools and spas can even look a wonderful sparkling blue yet still be unhealthy for you, your friends and your family to hop into.
We all need healthy pool water, and it’s really quite simple to get yours in shape.
In Looking for a Perfect Pool this Summer? we talk about filtration, and how important this is to your pool or spa.
The next step is sanitation, and monitoring of your pool sanitiser.
A pool or spa sanitiser can be either chlorine, salt, bromine, ozone or one of the new mineral options, however with some of these you will have to top up with chlorine to retain sanitation levels.
People who have bromine or ozone systems are sometimes led to believe that additional pool sanitiser is not required.
Meantime, those with salt chlorinators are given the false impression that self-cleaning chlorinators with timers are the same as automated dosing systems.
It is certainly difficult to work things out when everyone tells you something different!
It is common for people to either over-chlorinate or under-chlorinate, leading to water problems.
This means it is absolutely essential for you to have a good quality 4 in 1 test kit and to know how to use it.
Weekly testing is usually enough with your kit, but if it has been extremely hot, it pays to check before jumping in, or every second day.
You will also need to test your water’s pH and Acid along with the total Alkalinity.
Your basic chemicals of use are your sanitiser (eg chlorine), pH buffer and Pool Acid.
It would be rare to need any other chemical, though situations do occur. These three chemicals and your 4 in 1 test kit (plus constant filtration!) should keep your pool happy and healthy! Any questions? Give us a call. We’re always happy to help.
Sounds too hard?
Take a look at our chemical dosing page (but sorry you will still need to check the water sometimes!)
